Nielsen/NetRatings report finds that Web users conducted 5.1 billion search queries in October 2005, a 15 percent increase from June, the last time Nielsen/NetRatings surveyed search use.
Not surprisingly, Google had the lion’s share (48 percent) of queries, followed by Yahoo (21.8 percent), MSN (11.3 percent), and AOL (7.2 percent).
Which engine grew the fastest? Ask Jeeves, which served just 2.6 percent of searches, grew by a whopping 77 percent; Google grew by 21 percent, Yahoo by 16 percent, MSN by 8 percent, and AOL by just 3 percent. Searches for images grew markedly across all the engines by 36.6 percent; local search by 19.2 percent.
